Talking about a convoy of trucks that was transporting works of art away from French museums, so that they would not fall into the hands of the Nazis.

I am actually looking for the best translation of what appears inside the brackets. Thanks

My comment:

I think it should be "leur lourd cheminement" not "son lourd cheminement" - referring to the artworks.
