I presume this is a verbal account? This is why I have not translated the phrase literally, but tried to find an appropriate filler phrase in English. It would help to see the rest of the sentence.

Combination of the best choices from the other entries ... it seems to fit fairly well. "battle" could also be correct, instead of "struggles", but more context would be needed to know for sure.
