to adopt... is a matter of "treating as if he/she was his/her own child" but also "form an opinion"

Just "to embrace an opinion" means very little here. If applied to adoptive parents this could mean "stick to what you say/believe to be right" etc etc.

"adopt an opinion" would be the best translation, except that in this context, it might be repetitive, so I'd use "embrace"
