In Spanish one you speak about one table for instance you said Mesa de cristal. Mesa de vidrio sounds weird. It sounds to me to the character of Cervantes, el Licenciado Vidriera. If you speak about the material in general you can use vidrio and cristal, depending on the context. In this case both are OK, maybe it sound better cristal.
