I believe "rückerstattung" expresses the idea of 'refund' better than "erstattung".
I could be wrong of course.

Wenn man einen Betrag erstattet, wird er zurückgezahlt. Genau genommen wäre eine Rückerstattung also eine Erstattung eines schon enmal erstatteten Betrages ... Rückerstattung ist also "doppelt gemoppelt", wird aber oft verwendet, wie z. B. auch Unkosten - das sind einfach Kosten!!

Meant was probably "depreciation". "Deprecation" is "Missbilligung" :)
