My comment:

There is not many options in Spanish for this idea. The throttle is the part of the engine that regulates the amount of air that gets into the engine and the air/fuel ratio. So when the throttle is released, there is no air in the mixture and that makes combustion impossible....

My comment:

Para decirlo más correctamente, en este caso no es posible una traducción literal.
Lo más correcto en castellano es decir ""soltar/quitar el pie del acelerador".
