Man kann auch sagen "to show a program", besser jedoch war " to broadcast".

My comment:

I don't think there is a similarly short way to put this is English, but, when I worked at a dual-language TV station, "vertonen" meant the process of adding a spoken voice-over to an existing tape of visual material for broadcast. It is definitely *not* composing the feature.
