As explained in Wikipedia (see URL below), "roll-to-roll processing" is the process of creating electronic devices on a roll of flexible plastic or metal foil.
Roll-to-roll processing is a technology which is still in development.

One application of this kind of process is the manufacturing of solar cells.

As it is said in Context, roll-to-roll process simplifies manufacturing scale-up and has significantly lower capital and labor costs than previous generations of solar cells. Also it has significantly lower cost for new plant construction.
