My comment:

Ein Schalter findet man beispielsweise auf der Bank, Am Bahnhof (Ticketschalter), etc.

employment desk

My comment:

It would be good to have a little bit of a reference frame, since this word is not commonly used in IT lingo, but usually referred to as a place where you contact an official for a job when you seek employment.

Task switch

My comment:

I assume that Frederick;s idea is correct but I would use TASK SWITCH instead. When you google for "Job Switch" and "Task Switch" (+ Programming) you will see that Task Switch gets 25,000 hits while Job Switch only gets about 4,500 hits.

My comment:

I assume it has to do with "Aufgaben" and "das Schalten von einer Aufgabe zur anderen".
