It's not clear whether we are talking about him or her in this situation.

Intimité could not only be an euphemism for his own or Charlotte's body, but could also describes Charlotte's home (he enters her home for the first time and discovers details about her private life).

This maybe would make more sense since Charlotte holds him ever more very tightly.
