These two, who work together at a newspaer, and do other things together without officially dating, joke around a lot. Teh feamle protagonist calls him "big brother" to his face sine he's older than her and has been her supervisory. Is she saying "unless you end up on the funny pages? He laughs and jokes around with her a lot, and teases her.
