Se leggi l'interessante discussione nel primo link sottostante, troverai che si tratta di "gergo" di epoca Regency, utilizzato dalla scrittrice Georgette Heyer. Pare trattarsi di un uomo che corra la cavallina, che si dia molto da fare con le donne.
Il secondo link conferma l'idea generale di "donnaiolo/puttaniere", anche se "puttaniere" è di registro più basso e certo non una parola che questa autrice avrebbe usato; il concetto è comunque quello.
Tuttavia, fornire maggior contesto ci aiuterebbe a offrire risposte più precise, perciò concordo con i colleghi.
