La sua tristezza, allora, è infinita. Perchè morire è ben duro. Si fa presto a parlarne,..

It is confusing because the word 'solution' is not mentioned in the second sentence, but in the first one. The author is saying that when any other solution, except the most extreme, disappears, the suicidal person is left with an unspeakable pain...his sadness, then, is infinite. Because it is very hard to die, regardless of the platitudes about it...

"Venir meno" means "to be no longer availabe", "to be no longer feasible".
