Barbara Cochran (a guest user) asked this question:

Language pair:

Italian > English

Subject:

Other

Level of diffculty:

Easy / medium

Word or term in question:

massima espressione che sia stata concessa

Context:

E che restò la massima espressione di modernità che sia stata concessa alla vecchia...

Keywords:

...dimora...I would be interested in seeing you take on teh whole sentence as I made a rather non-literal one, so I can get a feeling of just how accurate it might be. The sentence refers to a Roman palace that is decorated in Baroque and Louis XVI style. Thanks in advance for your input.

My comment:

I think the reference to design (or architecture) must be clear even if it is only implied in the source language .

buildings can't experience anything, normally. Unless this were poetry. The sentence is passive construction: The grandest expression of modernity that had ever been given to the old [building or dwelling]

the best expression of modernity the old mansion could achieve

My comment:

Giusto un'idea.
