My comment:

"calepinage" is a technical term that refers to the pattern things make when laid out on a flat surface (tiles on a building façade, for example.) So a "plan de calepinage" might be a "pattern guide" or "pattern template": something you use to get the pattern right when installing or laying something. NB it has nothing to do with notebooks...
