Die woord "uI" is nie korrek nie, aangesien daar 'n groot verskil tussen 'n ui en 'n salot is, veral in kookterme. Salot is wel 'n direkte vertaling, maar word dikwels gebruik.

There doesn't seem to be a specific term for shallot in Afrikaans and hence my assumption that it is generally described by the word ui as in onion.
