Very clear explanations on the site - thanks! Problem is that, while I understand about carbon sinks, I can't find any references to continental carbon sinks ('continental sink' alone doesn't make much sense) .....

I think that they mean terrestrial carbon sinks (soils, forests, etc.) as opposed to marine carbon sinks. So her translation is not irrelevant.
