My comment:

In fact²it seems to be the same as "the sender"-the one who speaks, expresses himself in a letter. Yet in an English formal letter I would omit this word, as it is obvious that the name that comes first is a sender

My comment:

The one who is 'writing or talking' in the letter, would be the same as the 'remitente' in Spanish, who is the SENDER.... I think...not totally sure if it applies to this context.
