Les pierres précieuses servirent souvent au Reich de monnaie internationale lui permettant de se procurer les matières premières nécessaires.

Rejetés de l’art, les tableaux modernes étaient ainsi intégrés dans le domaine économique où se finançaient les campagnes d’Hitler.

The sentence seems a bit redundant to me.
