Rosa (a guest user) asked this question:

Language pair:

French > English

Subject:

Medical

Level of diffculty:

Easy / medium

Word or term in question:

NIR / NIA

Context:

On a patient's chart:

Nom de naissance
Prénom(s) de naissance:
Date de naissance:
Lieu de naissance:
N° matricule INS:
NIR/NIA: NIR

I think that NIR refers to Social Security number, but then what is NIA? (Also, is INS still INS in English?)

SSN / TSSN

My comment:

NIR = numéro d'inscription au répertoire => Social Security Number as unique, personal number (SSN)

NIA = numéro d'immatriculation d'attente => Temporary Social Security Number (TSSN)

ad NIA : NIA is converted into a NIR once it has been verified that there is no other identical NIR that has already been assigned.
This procedure takes about 10 months!

ad INS : ==> "Identité Nationale de Santé (INS)"  [initially called "Identifiant National de Santé"] ==> ergo : "National Health Identity (INS)" /  "National Health Identifier" i.e. an identifier assigned to every beneficiary of health insurance as a permanent and unique personnel number [cf e.g. 1. https://ue.esante.gouv.fr/information-systems-security-pre-condition-trust/ins-french-ehealth-identity ; 2. https://www.berger-levrault.com/fr/parole-d-expert/ins-une-obligation-depuis-janvier-2021-ou-en-etes-vous-avantages-et-mise-en-pratique/#:~:text=Chaque%20personne%20est%20dot%C3%A9e%20d,des%20bases%20nationales%20de%20r%C3%A9f%C3%A9rence.] (forgotten answer, sry)
