they are making a word out of "pana" as in buddy or friend and "ism" . I would just use favoritism and leave it at that.

Hi, Clara. Your explanation helped me a lot as it reflected accurately the whole context. I actually translated it as "cronyism" which refers to very close friends (usual male) who tend to exclude others from their circle. Muchas gracias!
