[Resposta] Aferir e calibrar têm, na realidade, e como afirma, significados um bocado diferentes. Quando se afere, o máximo que se pode fazer, se for caso disso, é apor a marca de aferição; quando se calibra, tal como muito bem diz, além de se aferir, pode ser necessário dar o calibre conveniente a determinado objecto, por exemplo uma boca de fogo. Portanto, não são sinónimos perfeitos, que aliás são raros.

Como no texto também aparece calibração, não fica muito bonito traduzir "aferição e calibração" para "calibration & calibration" !
