compassos.
My comment:
Dependendo do contexto podemos dizer que "só tocaram algumas notas", pois é assim que dizemos naturalmente, no entanto, "bars" significa compassos.
My references:
Oxford Dic. - Music : any of the short sections or measures into which a piece of music is divided, shown on a score by vertical lines across the stave.

acordes (compassos)
My comment:
According to the definition I found for "bar" (see below), the LITERAL translation would be "compassos".
"Acorde" (chord) has to do with different musical notes (sounds) played or sung together to form a harmony. As for "compasso", it has to do with the rhythmical cadence, or "tempo" (see below, also).
However, it's more common, in Portuguese, to say, for example "Chegamos atrasados ao concerto, mas a orquestra mal havia tocado os primeiros acordes" ("We arrived late at the concert, but the orchestra had just played a few chords") than to say "Chegamos atrasados ao concerto, mas a orquestra mal havia tocado os primeiros compassos" (We arrived late at the concert, but the orchestra had just played a few bars").
Hope it helps!
Good luck!
