Based on the different pictures, also the ones on the link below, could it not refer to GEFLOCHTEN (I know, once can say braided and all that) ... just a thought

Why didn't I think of asking the 'hose doctor'? This will work very nicely. For "flared through" I might try something like "durchgehend beschichtet" (I followed the "Flare through" link at the bottom of the reference page) as it means even where the hose sections are joined no metal can touch the medium. Many, many thanks for your help today:-))
