A prospective study was conducted among 84 patients that were diagnosed “impaired glucose tolerance” (IGT) 18 years ago in order to know the prevalence of diabetes mellitus (DM) and to identify clinical or metabolic factors that may be associated to an unfavorable evolution of this affection. It was found that of the 114 subjects with IGT that were part of the initial group, 25 (22 %) had died.

Se realizó un estudio prospectivo en 84 pacientes con diagnóstico de “tolerancia a la glucosa alterada” (TGA), desde hace 18 años, para conocer la prevalencia de diabetes mellitus (DM) e identificar factores clínicos o metabólicos que pudieran estar asociados a la evolución desfavorable de esta afección. Se encontró que de los 114 sujetos con TGA que componían el grupo inicial, 25 (22 %) habían fallecido.
