A prospective study was conducted among 84 patients that were diagnosed �impaired glucose tolerance� (IGT) 18 years ago in order to know the prevalence of diabetes mellitus (DM) and to identify clinical or metabolic factors that may be associated to an unfavorable evolution of this affection. It was found that of the 114 subjects with IGT that were part of the initial group, 25 (22 %) had died.

Se realiz� un estudio prospectivo en 84 pacientes con diagn�stico de �tolerancia a la glucosa alterada� (TGA), desde hace 18 a�os, para conocer la prevalencia de diabetes mellitus (DM) e identificar factores cl�nicos o metab�licos que pudieran estar asociados a la evoluci�n desfavorable de esta afecci�n. Se encontr� que de los 114 sujetos con TGA que compon�an el grupo inicial, 25 (22 %) hab�an fallecido.
