Alice (a guest user) asked this question:

Language pair:

French > English

Subject:

Technical / Engineering

Level of diffculty:

Easy / medium

Word or term in question:

la délégation unique du personnel

Context:

ce n'est qu'au cours de la réunion que la délégation unique du personnel a été informée

The answer of   See profile was rated best

personnel representatives

My comment:

Again, this is peculiar to French labor law. In each enterprise, the employees elect delegates that speak for the personnel. In larger entreprises, there is also a 'Comité d'entreprise' that has more formal function of interlocutor with management. In entreprises that are neither small nor large, they have the option of regrouping both the delegates and the comité d'entreprise in a unique body, the "délégation unique du personnel".
Since there is no equivalent, the best way to translate is to explain.

The asker's comment:

Thanks. Delegation Unique du Personnel - DUP - turns out this is a formal term for the body you describe. I was able to find a ref on the internet - not in any of my legal dictionaries though. Thanks for your help.
