My comment:

The term "recuentos" could simply be an "inventory/list" of, or it could be the "re-telling" of the actual poems. In either case, the focus seems to be on the style of the poetry (written in the natural time sequence/chronological order).

You might think that "countless" is an antonym of "recuentos", but it also mean "too numerous to count", the same impression that the author conveys. Besides, it'll flow better.
