My comment:

I think this is referring to the Brocca programme as seen here, in both sites; the first is in the abstract/introduzione(the Abstract defines it as "Experiment" and note 20 (bottom) page 42, and the other is in Presentazione, pg. ix-defined as Innovative experiment
