L'altra sera, la sera del Solstizio che è per noi italiani una sorta di festa solare e segna questa volta il culmine della luce di Roma, quando ci fu annunziata la trasfigurazione e l'ascensione di "Francesco Baracca, il Vitorioso", là, in un campo litoraneo, mentre i nostri uomoni caricavano di bombe i nostri apparecchi, io dissi ai miei compagni che ben gli antichi nostri celebravano i funerali degli eroi con giuochi funebri. E, per celebrare l'eroe nostro col solo rito degno di lui, io li condussi a un funebre giuoco di guerra.

Funeral games started in Greece to honour dead heroes and many consider these games as the origin of the Olympics.
