do without food

My comment:

According to my dictionary, "prescindir de" means "to do without" and "alimentos" is food or nourishment. I checked "alimony" just to be sure, but my dictionary gives "pensão alimenticia" or "sustento" for this. Maybe they're fasting, or doing without food because of poverty.
