If the wheels on the chair were small, this would be the correct translation since casters are small wheels. Wheelchairs have big wheels, according to my references. I googled and found out that the first chair of this kind was used four centuries ago by Spain's king and was know as an "invalid's chair." Given your historical context, this may be your best bet. Hope it helps!
