My comment:

"compte-goutte" means "dropper" as defined by Claude Le Frapper and Barbara Cochran. This context can be translated as "apply oil sparingly in the borings of the airplane surface"

you wouldn't use an eye-dropper for this and we don't have an all-round equivalent for a 'compte-goutte' in English so this is a safer option.
