In French we tend to call any type of sports shoes baskets or basquets, but in fact, montantes means they give ankle support, as opposed to being low ones. I think the only sports shoes that give that high ankle support are the basball boots.

mais normalement l'orthographe n'est pas avec "quet" mais bas"ket" venant bien sūr du nom du sport......
