My comment:

It makes a big difference in sense!
As far as I know, the stools at the dentists are NOT on casters but can be elevated by foot control.
So tool would be more obvious = die Rollen des Gerätes
should not get in contact with the foot control. Otherwise they could actuate the chair to lift up or tilt ... or even turn on the air pressure ...

Dear Anja, Are you really sure your dentist's operating chair is on rolls/casters? I doubt that. Not that it would be far too dangerous, it's prohibited as far as I know and the whole chair construction must be firmly fixed to the ground.

Es muß sichergestellt werden, daß die Rollen des Operationsgeräts nicht die Hebel für Höhen- und Neigungseinstellung am Fußschalter berühren und dadurch einen Unfall verursachen.

Ich glaube, im Kontext hat sich ein Tippfehler eingeschlichen: tool, statt stool Ich nehme stark an, dass die Rollen sich am Stuhl befinden - in der Nähe der Fußschalter.
