la connotación es "negativa" te ponen en preaviso de algo futuro inmediato no muy "agradable" como consecuencia de una, por ejemplo, conducta presente incorrecta, etc...

The correct translation depends on the context. Bernard's excellent suggestions refer to the meaning of 'warning'. My suggestions refer to 'advice'. So you have to consult the source text in order to pick the right word.

Especially "conminación" if they are referring to a "judgment," at least that would be the case in Mexico.
