by the way: it depends whether the text is British English or American English:
BE: "excess" or "excess insurance" for "Selbstbehalt"
AE: "deductible" is the correct term

This is exactly what we are talking about! A synonym could be "deductible"; both are nouns, but if you feel more comfortable with it, you can freely use them as adjectives associated to the words "sum" or "cost", depending on your translation approach as well as on the specific point of the text

Selbstbehalt (see Wikipedia) is the minimal sum of money needed to survive for a person that cannot earn money himself or has no pther income (wife, husband, child, grand-parent) and has the right to get maintenance from parents, children a.s.o.
The table of the tribunal of Dusseldorf is generally overtaken by other family judges in Germany
