....vita brillante al bar dell'Excelsior, allora in voga, e nell'ambiente gaudente e rumoroso della ricca borghesia moderna. Erano titoli pericolosi, quelli, nei confronti dei "retrogradi" del circolo, ai quali ogni innovazione, specie se estranea al loro mondo, riusciva intollerabile.

the ones that had belonged to the club had to deal with these 2, and they were difficult and hard to set store by:as I understand it
