My comment:

As Marie-Claire said, the normal phrase is "coucher une personne sur son testament". I think the author uses it intentionally since it refers to the "forces de l'esprit" and the human aspect of the ceremony.

My comment:

Technically it means "to include someone (usually an heir) in one's will." Since the author is not using the expression in the traditional way, I thought I'd just try to simply say "written."
