I think the word propulsion is too restrictive in this context since it makes us think of steam driven vehicles only. What about all the machines used in factories?

I'm one of your staunchest supporters but i don't agree with "modes of propulsion" which is too restrictive (limited to steam driven vehicles, forgetful of all the machines used in factories). Coal guzzling driving/motive techniques is less restrictive.

Oh no! You've all given me a real problem on how to rate the best answer. If I rate Martyn's best then what will appear in Conges is manifestly inaccurate, but the discussion has been most useful. So I'm going to rate another one for which the original answer is nearer to what I will use. But many thanks to all for your valuable input! Amanda
