Context:

La dueña de la casa, Katy, tenía ya setenta y dos años y se moría de cáncer. Le había ordenado a Bendición, una señora viuda de edad vecina del pueblo que se ofrecía desinteresadamente para atenderla, que llamase a sus sobrinas porque estaba empeorando y "sentía a la muerte cerca.".

My comment:

The word "urged" is not as compelling as "instructed", which is a more compelling action.

In Spanish, the term "ordenó" is a more no-nonsense do-as-I-say command and not really a 'petition' or 'suggestion' (far more direct than in English).
