The word "pantomima" (pantomime in French) is often used with a wrong meaning. it should normally be rranslated by "fuss" or "outcry" in English. But here it seems to mean nonsense, lies.

My comment:

It's figurative, where "pantomimas" is just a way to refer to the "nonsense" people might speak of when talking about the afterlife.
