Barbara Cochran (a guest user) asked this question:

Language pair:

Italian > English

Subject:

General

Level of diffculty:

Easy / medium

Word or term in question:

fu rinvenuta a braccia aperte

Context:

The open arms of whom? Angels?

stumbled on the corpse, its arms [wide] open

My comment:

This preserves the element of 'stumbled upon', but makes it clear whose arms were open!

Maybe 'arms akimbo' would work, though I've only heard this in the context of 'legs akimbo' meaning 'legs apart'... :-/
