Bei google findet man sehr viele Infos zu dieser Art Landschaft, auch Bilder (z.B. unter Florida Definition Hammock u.ä.). Eine davon ist "a more or less elevated piece of land, often rising out of a swamp or wetland, usually contains rich, organic soil and either palm or hardwood vegetation". Ich würde den engl. Begriff evtl. (je nach Text) sogar stehen lassen und eine Erklärung in Klammern hinzufügen, z.B. "Sie werden die wunderschönen geschützten Hammocks kennenlernen (eine für diese Gegend typische, leicht hügelige und sehr fruchtbare Landschaft)",...oder so ähnlich.

hammocks oder hummocks, laut Webster (American) Language: raised piece of very fertile land with hardwood trees growing on it
