A ces sortes de brevets le consentement des Maistres & Gardes de la vacation n'est point requis, mais au lieu de cela les brevets des apprentifs doivent estre inscrits & registrez dans le livre de leur Communauté..." Vacation seems to be about the Master's absences, presumably on business, but I'm struggling to find a term less modern than 'business trip'. Specifying buying or selling would be an overtranslation as it's not stated.

Amanda I think it's more likely to be about the time spent making something. This is one of the older meanings of "vacation" which survives in some contexts today.

The maistres et gardes de la vacation are probably officials who oversee a particular profession. Vacation is prob. either a profession (vacation = métier) or the time spent making something. I can't be more precise as this is highly specialised stuff - you need a historian to help you!
