Barbara R. Cochran, MFA  See profile asked this question:

Language pair:

French > English

Level of diffculty:

Easy / medium

Word or term in question:

Would this be "German High Command"?

Oberkommando der Wehrmacht (OKW)

My comment:

official name: Oberkommando der Wehrmacht [Hitler wanted to create power and authority around his position as Führer and Reich Chancellor, which disadvantaged the military leadership of the Wehrmacht - (pure culmination of power)]

ad autorité sup. all.: the German High (or Supreme) Command roughly describes what is known as "OKW (Oberkommando der Wehrmacht)" ! [... same as another proper name : ERR (Einsatzstab Reichsleiter Rosenberg)! ERR can't be translated, yet has to be explained as a "Nazi Party special task force headed by Hitler’s leading ideologue Alfred Rosenberg"] "autorité sup. all." : probably "OKW (Oberkommando der Wehrmacht) = German High Command" OR (possibly) "Reichsministerium = Reich Ministry OR Reichsverwaltung = administration of the realm"

German High Command

My comment:

Yes, I believe the French phrase translates very well to “German High Command”. Given the obvious sensitivity permission of any kind would have to be sought at that level.
