Meaning (a.o.): je zult het onderspit delven.
Depends a bit on further context.
Gauntlet-glove --> throw down the gauntlet-glove = de handschoen neerwerpen
Running the gauntlet = spitsroeden lopen

My comment:

to "suffer the gauntlet" is not a normal expression - I would guess the meaning is to be struck, or to be challenged to a duel. The normal expression is to "run the gauntlet" which means to pass through a whole series of hostile dangers
