Peter Field  See profile asked this question:

Language pair:

French > English

Level of diffculty:

Difficult / demanding

Word or term in question:

Appareil à crumble

This phrase comes from a list of fancy desserts. The word 'appareil' occurs in similar phrases: 'Appareil brownie et cookie aux pépites de chocolat', 'Appareil à tatin', etc.
It is the sense of 'appareil' in these culinary phrases that is bothering me.

The answer of CMD  See profile was rated best

specific preparation of ... (just in culinary sense !)

My comment:

Appareil (cuis./terme culinaire):
mélange des différents ingrédients constituant la base d'une recette
mélange de plusieurs produits alimentaires servant à la préparation d'un mets
PR: préparation spécifique pour la confection d'un met
