I don't agree that this is necessarily a derogative connotation based on personal experience. I know a Muslim who gives me professional services in the academic community and can't seem to do enough for me and others. She is very kind and caring, and sincerely so. A wonderful and talented person. The Jihadists, however, make no secret of the fact that they are out to coerce all of civilization into practicing their religion, and anyone who does not agree with them should be killed. Intolerant of anyone who does not believe like they do. "Jihadist" is definitely a derogtory designation in civilized societies, although I can't say that the comment we were asked to translate is very civilized either. Anyway, please look at my reference.
