When claiming this warranty

Again, scroogey context?

Hellloooo, TraduGuide, why do you charge so expensively for translators giving context in their queries??? ... Ah, you don't charge! ... So why do they do it?

Okay, Sandra, you are up. I think you missed the point, thinking that "exercício" would be something like "ano fiscal". Nope. "Exercício da garantia" is actually USING the warranty.

You bought a gizmo three months ago. It had a one-year warranty. This morning, it stopped lighting up, vibrating, making noise, whatever it was expected to do. So you take it to an authorized shop, and "exercita" = "põe para funcionar" a garantia.

In English, it's called "to make a warranty claim". It's in the warranty period, so you can claim repair, replacement, refund, whatever the certificate prescribes. This is why I could have given you better guidance if you had given me more context.
